Spencer House

Carved as part of restoration program of Spencer House, St. James's, London: a neo-classical town house by John Vardy & James 'Athenian' Stuart, the most complete surviving example of its kind.

Spencer House was restored by Lord Rothschild and part of that restoration was the recarving of six marble chimneypieces by Scheemakers and others that had been removed and installed at Althorp and elsewhere.

Examples of other work in this project are illustrated in the book 'Spencer House - Chronicle of a great London mansion' by Joseph Friedman (Zwemmer).
