Peter Coates is a sculptor and carver with a comprehensive training in traditional techniques. Highly crafted sculptural stone and text-based material form the core of his output.
Peter's work has played an integral part in the development of public spaces, from landscape and architectural projects to galleries and sensitive historical sites. These works include major commissions in the United Kingdom and abroad, ranging from the monumental in scale to smaller, more intimate work.
In 2005 he was awarded a two year fellowship by NESTA (The National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations and explore the juxtaposition of traditional with new materials and media.
Peter Coates is a Crafts Council selected maker and member of Contemporary Applied Arts.
